TechSmith has launched new versions of Snagit 11 for Windows and Snagit on Mac 2 with new and enhanced video capture capabilities. Both versions of Snagit now provide technical communications users with a full set screen capture and recording functionality.
“Why are we so excited about Snagit’s new video capabilities? Because it’s the number one request from our users, and it’s providing features and capabilities that aren’t available anywhere else,” said Tiffany Wood, Snagit and Jing product manager. “Industry statistics show that people retain 58 percent more information watching a presentation than from reading alone, so Snagit’s new, easy-to-use video functionality will help our users communicate more effectively, while saving valuable time.”

“Video consumption has reached near-incendiary levels with YouTube receiving 2 billion video views every day, so obviously video appeals,” Wood said. “In fact, video traffic is predicted to increase from 30 percent to 90 percent of all Internet traffic by 2013 – that’s a pretty compelling reason for anyone to get more comfortable with making and sharing video, whether they’re looking to become the next YouTube phenomenon or teach a classroom of college students.”
TechSmith also announced that the sale of Jing Pro has been discontinued effective February 28, 2012. Current Jing Pro customers can purchase an upgrade to Snagit at a 50 percent discount, and subscriptions will be extended until February 28, 2013 at no charge. The SnagIt upgrade eliminates the five minute video recording limit in Jing Pro as well as enhanced capturing and editing capabilities.
Technical communications users can download a free, fully-functional, 30-day trial of the new Snagit. Upgrade licenses can be purchased for $24.95 (USD) and new licenses for $49.95. All Snagit licenses include a free Screencast.com account with 2GB of storage and 2GB of transfer bandwidth monthly. Snagit on Mac is now also available in the Mac App Store.
